Volvo Berusia 93 Tahun Hari Ini

Secara tempatan dan global, ramai di seluruh dunia menyambut hari lahir mereka keseorangan. Walaupun tidak dikira seseorang, ‘Hari Jadi’ Volvo adalah betul-betul 93 tahun lalu, hari ini. Pada 14 April 1927, kereta pertama Volvo, ÖV 4 keluar dari barisan pengeluaran. Volvo ÖV 4 juga merupakan kereta besar pertama di Sweden dan mendapat banyak inspirasi daripada reka bentuk kereta kontemporari Amerika. Ia mempunyai rangka kayu, enjin injap sebelah 1.9L dan roda dari sekeping artileri dengan spoke kayu.

Agak aneh, tetapi Volvo benar-benar menganggap kelahiran kereta pertama mereka sebagai permulaan rasmi syarikat mereka. Pengasas Assar Gabrielsson dan Gustav Larson memutuskan untuk membina kereta yang akan dapat mengharungi cuaca buruk dan jalan-jalan lasak Sweden.

Tarikh ketara lain sebelum pengeluaran kenderaan pertama mereka ialah:

• May 1911 – Apabila Volvo didaftarkan sebagai tanda dagangan untuk ball bearing untuk syarikat di mana Assar Gabrielsson bekerja.

Volvo’s founder Assar Gabrielsson saw an opportunity for car manufacturing in Sweden after having observed the growing auto industries in the U.S and Europe from his position within sales at the Swedish ball bearing maker SKF, a supplier to the car industry.

Pointing towards Sweden’s readily accessible steel, cheap labour and skilled engineers, he managed to convince SKF to invest in a spin-off car business called AB Volvo.

The first mass-produced Swedish car was quite a conventional vehicle with elements of American car design, a wooden frame made of ash tree and beech, a 1.9 litre side valve engine and artillery wheels with wooden spokes.

Only one colour combination was available: dark blue with black fenders.

Despite all these changes over the last 90 years, one thing has remained the same, the company’s commitment to making the world’s safest cars.
